Meet Producer 'Buddafly Wolf' (Jack Harlow, Chris Brown, Ye Ali & More)

Updated: Nov 8, 2022

In a few words, tell us who Buddafly Wolf is?

Well, in a nutshell, I’m a musician/producer based out of Florida...specifically Lake Worth, Fl. I'm a music fan foremost, constantly evolving, constantly finding new ways to express myself through the power of music and artistry.

I see you have a few hits under your belt! Looking back, did you think those records would take off the way that they did?

I suppose you never really know what's going to take off, at any given point, while building your catalogue. So, for me, coming from Sound click days and constantly uploading my beats to Soundcloud and with the power of the internet, you never know who’s watching or in your inbox. That could be that life changing moment. I'm still in awe of the records I have been apart of. Essentially for me, its trusting my own process, that one day my contributions would pay off.

You’ve recently worked with Jack Harlow and Chris Brown. How was that?

Definitely something I could never imagine of that magnitude and I’m super grateful because of it. Coming from the piano/keyboard world, I was working on some melody ideas with Ye Ali, whom I frequently collaborate with and we found something that fit the vibe for what Jack Harlow and Chris Brown wanted to represent for the record Already Best Friends. Something fun and not too serious, kind of a Segway to his album as a whole and the result turned into the song you hear now.

You have credits on the soundtrack for the upcoming movie B-Boy Blues, tell us about that.

This is actually the first soundtrack debut I’ve contributed to. The upcoming film is written by James Earl Hardy and directed by Jussie Smollett. I got a call from another frequent collaborator, Durand Bernarr, who actually executive produced the soundtrack! He thought some of my more soulful music approaches could be used for the film which ultimately got signed up for the project. I’m excited to even see where this soundtrack contribution may go, in my career.

Growing up, did you know that music would play such a major role in your life?

I didn’t think in that magnitude, how much it would mean to me, nor where it would lead me, but I always felt its importance in my younger journey into this. Music has always been a soundtrack to my life and I'm sure it will continue.

Would you say that music chose you or you chose music?

I would say, I chose music but music chose me in a way as well. It’s like I'm married to the game lol.

Who in the industry past or present inspires you?

Certainly, ones I'd say of a next level creative and artistic awareness like Quincy Jones, Patrice Rushen, Dr. Dre, and of course Michael Jackson, Herbie Hancock, Prince, Sade. True legends. As of now, artists like H.E.R , Producer Dmile, The Neptunes and Tyler The Creator, each in their own right are trailblazing and keeping musicianship and artistry alive in new exciting ways.

What tips would you give to the aspiring artist, songwriter, or producer?

Stay curious. Stay humble. Don’t get too comfortable. Above all else, be you and no one else. Lock into your own identity and musicality while trusting the process of, oftentimes, early mornings and late nights while pursuing a place in this tough industry.

What is one of the hardest challenges you have had to face in your career?

I would say, not having as much patience starting out and knowing now that things are not overnight. It truly is a process and lots of sacrifice. Removing myself out of certain situations, away from certain people or groups that are not conducive to me moving forward and progressing. Also, accepting those lonely nights until breakthroughs happen. I’d say pretty much, that.

Have you had moments where you thought about quitting? If so what did you do to combat that?

I have had, I would say weary, lowly moments and feeling like some may not understand the vision. But the bigger picture is my faith and trusting the process, affirming and manifesting that this is how I see my life apart of this universal language of music. I couldn’t see it no other way, regardless of any circumstances. By any means necessary.

Anyone you would like to work with?

Lucky Daye, H.E.R , Sebastian Mikhael, Masego, Kendrick. I'm manifesting it now, lol.
