Rick Steel

Producer, Engineer, Songwriter

ABOUT

Born Fenrick Gibbs, also known as Rick Steel, he grew up in Hollis, Queens, New York. His father, a musician, inspired his love for music, and Rick established his own sound in 2001, quickly becoming the hottest producer in Queens. He was involved in the early development of Nicki Minaj, who is also from Queens. He then formed the collective Kingminhsteel and teamed up with Def Jam, propelling Tokona-X to success in Japan.

In 2005, Rick joined Irv Gotti's record company and produced Ja Rule's album, which led to a publishing deal with BugMusic/BMG. His mission became discovering and developing talents, including Nicki Minaj, French

Montana, Chinx, Bliss, Dafina Zeqiri, and more.

Cultivating French Montana's sound in early 2007 paid off, and in 2017, P. Diddy joined Rick to executive produce French Montana's platinum-selling album and diamond smash hit single "Unforgettable." French Montana has now sold over 70 million records worldwide and has become the most streamed African born artist in history, a testament to Rick's Midas-like production ability and innovative professionalism.

Rick's production ability has earned him the opportunity to work with legendary artists such as Kanye West, Nas, The Game, and Magic, among others.
